Thiruvullakkavu Sree Dharmashastha temple

It may be the only one Shastha temple in Kerala where Vidyarambham is the main festival . Here Shastha is the main diety and it is believed that the Saraswathi devi is also in this idol. On Vijayadashami day there will be an unending queue in front of the temple for the 'ezhuthiniruthal'. The temple is situated on the way to Irinjalakuda. It is 10 Km from Thrissur town.

Paravoor mookambika temple

A temple dedicated to the goddess of letters 'Saraswathi Devi'. The temple is situated at North Paravur in Ernakulam District. The sreekovil is in the midst of a lotus pool. Other sub dieties are Ganapathy, Subrahmanyan, Yakshi, Hanuman and Veerabhadran. The temple is under the administration of Travancore Devaswom Board.
Navarathri festival is celebrated with great devotion. Thousands of children enter into the world of letters from this temple on Vijayadashami day.

Vidyaramham is a very important function in Kerala. Vidyarambham is observed in the Vijayadashami day of Navarathri. Evenif it is a hindu tradition, now it is followed by other religions to start the formal education of Children. Vidyarambham or 'Ezhuthiniruthal' is the starting of Education in a temple or other cultural institutions. 'Vidya' means Knowledge and 'Aarambham' means starting.
Children must not cross 3 years. There will be priests or eminent persons in the temple for vidyarambham. Writing in rice is considered auspicious, so first they will write in rice and then using a golden ring they will write on the tongue of the child. 'Hari sree ganapathaye namaha avighnamasthu' is the first alphabets. There will be an atmosphere of the first day of the school with crying sounds .
This day we can start any arts like dance or music. In Kerala in this day students give 'dakshinas'(a traditional offering with beetel leaves ,aracnut and coin) to teachers to have their blessings. Elders also write Malayalam letters in sand or rice after Saraswathi Pooja. Panachikkadu saraswathi temple, Thiruvullakkavu Sri Dharmashastha temple, Chottanikkara Devi temple and Paravur Mookambi temple are well known places for Vidyarambham. Dakshina Mookambika

The temple is situated in Panachikkadu, a village 4Kms from Chingavanam town. The place is in between Kottayam and Changanacherry in MC road. The temple is a main pilgrim centre during Navarathri days. The temple is considered as an auspicious place for 'Vidyarambham'. Chief diety is Mahavishnu. This is considered as a Saraswathi temple. Saraswathi idol is placed in an open place, a pond like structure covered by creepers. Water flow around the idol is a miracle of this temple. It will not dry up even in the peak summer season.
