Jawaharlal Nehru stadium is an International stadium in Kochi. Stadium was built in 1996. It has the capacity to carry 60, 000 spectactors. It is the 5th largest in India. It has played host to international cricket events and football matches.

Views from Irumbupalam (Iron bridge). Irumbu palam connects Maradu and Thripunithura. It is also a historical monument of the royal era. The bridge is at the western part of Sri poornathrayeesha temple. It was built in 1895 by the British emperors. Then it was meant for the bullock carts and horse drawn rikshaws. In 1990 a major maintanence work had done. Now its main bottle neck area in that road.

Radha Lakshmi Vilasam College of Music was established in the year 1936 by the Maharaja of Kochi. Now it is under the Kerala Government offering 13 degree courses and 11 post graduate courses. Disciplines include Veena, Violin, Mridangam, Chenda, Maddalam, Kathakali, Kathakali music, Bharatha natyam, Mohiniyattom, Painting and Applied art.
This prestigious institution was functioned in an old building at a pathetic condition. On September 18th of 2008 the new building was inaugurated by Minister of Education Mr.M A Baby. Former students and musical stalwarts like K J Yeshudas and Thiruvizha Jayashanker were also present at the historical moment.
The new building had two blocks and four floors with an area of 8,300 sq. feet. Each floor will be devoted to different art form. There are 55 class rooms in total.

Other main institutions in this road are Poornathrayeesha Balasramam an orphanage for boys run by Viswa hindu parishad, Puthen bunglaw temple and RLV college.

Gandhi sqare at Poonithura

Gandhi square is a junction in Poonithura which connects Thripunithura to Kochi Madura highway through Irumbupalam. A gandhi statue is there to commemmorate the visit of Gandhiji to this place during the freedom movement.

Thevara college, Kochi

Sacred Heart College, Thevara. The college is under Mahatma Gandhi University. The college got five star status by the NAAC. College was established in 1944.
One of the oldest college in Kochi. May be more famous because of the cinema shootings done here. The college in the hit film 'Chocolate' and also many more. A well maintained college. Back side of the college is Vembanad lake. College phone no. is 0484-2663002.

Maharajas college synthetic track


One of the oldest college in Kerala. In 2007 Maharajas College ground renovated with synthetic tracks for conducting International athletic events. College ground has facilities for sports events Cricket, Football, Kabady, Kho-kho, volley ball, badminton, basket ball and hockey. Pavillion has the capacity to carry 25,000 people. Facilities are available for indoor games like table tennis, carom, chess, wrestling, weight lifting and power lifting.

Petta Junction

Petta junction recently caught media attention due to the recurring accidents in the junction. The increasing traffic has no proper control that led to the deaths of innocent people. This is also a busiest junction in the suburbs of Kochi corporation. Its also the last station of the proposed Kochi Metro rail. Here Kottayam-Ernakulam road and Kochi-Madurai highway cross. Supermarket chains of Varkeys, Spencers and Subhiksha had made their presence in this junction. Other main shops are Oven hot bakers, Royal bakers, Revathi Textiles, Krish collections, Swamy's sweets, Krishna Medical shop, Southern transport company, Kottappurathu Hardwares, Doctor's Diagonostic centre, Shalini's Digital Studio, Varsha herbal beauty parlour, Shahanaz herbal beauty parlour, priya's beauty clinic, Pin point Marriage beauro and a Margin free market. Poonithura Co operative and its consumer store are also in this junction. Lakshmi vilas udupi restaurant and Mummas are the main hotels in Petta junction. Several vegetable stalls and fish stalls are also there. An entrance training cetre led by Alphons Kannanthanam attracts many youngsters. A dental clinic named Trident dental clinic is also in petta junction. Above the shop of Beverages Corporation make this junction more busy.
